Aerial Palettes

‘The Anatomy of an Idea’

A slowly unfolding narrative, beginning with the journey to Wehrmühle itself and concluding with sonic contemplations. Aerial Palettes holds its focus with the intention to deliver thought-provoking, bespoke cultural experiences in unique settings.

Evelyn Bencicova

  • SimulacRaum is an investigation of constructed spaces, Räume, that carry the resemblance, or likeness (Latin. Simulacrum) to the model standing in opposition to their origin. Series shows the earth's surface slit into functional shapes as well as urban structures molded to organic forms, each of them artificially created, yet connected with nature either by its fragmentation or re-recreation. In both ways, a transformation takes place, from grown to build and vice versa, with its effects found as traces on-site, in which another meaning of simulacrum, unsatisfactory imitation or substitute, is revealed.

Sensus Communis

  • If Atlantis is the story of an ancient culture destroyed by nature, then Anti-Atlantis represents its opposite – a future landscape destroyed by the human culture of excess. ‘Anti-Atlantis’ calls for the moment of awakening. In the time travel between the past and future, Anti-Atlantis brings attention to our present behavior, its consequences, and impulses for change. The focus is on passage through the dystopian vision of the future, which could be still avoided by a joint effort in creating the world we want to wake up into.

The project was realized with the support of A3 [Arndt Art Agency] and FPU.

The Sensus Communis team consists of:

Evelyn Bencicova, Enes Güc, Zeynep Schilling, Klara Ravat, Farahnaz Hatam & Colin Hacklander of LABOUR and Ikonospace’s Joris Demnard and Manuel Farre.

Enes Güç

  • Laden with symbolism, “The Sun, Rising and The Moon” is an interactive sculptural tryptic which explores the human condition - a complex system of external projections, internal persona’s and exiled aspects of self. Through the use of evocative, yet over saturated references from astrology, religion, mythology, pop culture and technology, Enes Güç takes a humorous approach in expressing human suffering with an awareness that the condition is both deeply personal, yet universally and infinitely relatable.

Anna Zachariades

  • Zachariades’ sculptural series “Soft Spot” is an exploration of material properties and their limits. Challenging the way these materials are traditionally understood, the artist creates abstract zones of conflict that are representative of the ever-shifting dynamic relationships between humans, environments and emotional states of being. They interrogate the notion of vulnerability, and what change and adaptation looks like as an often anxiety-laden reaction in the face of brute force.

Sofia Ghezzo Leal

  • Sofia Ghezzo Leal is a silicon and prop student and artist. Working with naked models in order to make casts for her pieces provides Leal with an opportunity to capture a moment in time. ‘Plastic Bodies’ is the result of experimenting with silicon on various body forms, challenging the boundaries and re- framing the medium of her research with conceptual expressionism.

Complimenting her pieces, Leal’s process was captured, synthesised and presented in video form by Giuliano Franco Ochipinti.

Oscar Rohleder

  • Oscar Rohleder’s photography often deals with documenting and interrogating spaces that have shaped his identity. One of his recent studies revolves around the Messe ICC building in Berlin, which, at 313 meters long, 89 meters wide and 40 meters high, was a constant, looming backdrop during his daily commutes as a teenager.

Now the asbestos-packed bulwark has been left dormant in Berlin’s West for years, surrounded by a sea of asphalt, highways and car lanes. Thousands of people pass by the stranded gray spaceship each day, it’s outer husk deteriorating, while its mystifying interior remains closed off to the public eye.

Having been captivated by the building’s exterior for most of his formative years, Rohleder managed to gain access into the Messe ICC in 2021.

Enes Güç

  • “Little Lamb” is an audio-visual installation which centres around a re-imagining of a slaughtered animal as a gesture of religious sacrifice. In this interpretation, multi-media artist Enes Güç has abandoned the biological body, replacing it with a resin carcass - transparent, reflective, brightly lit and synthetic in nature.

Accompanied with an audio recording of the artist’s personal experience with animal sacrifices, an emphasis is placed on the soul of the creature - an energetic life-force which, through the act of sacrifice, is torn from one being to be symbolically absorbed into the consciousness of another.

YKZHHQ

  • “The Pigsty” is an audio-visual piece by YKZHHQ — a tale of pigs and men, tortured and slaughtered by obscure forces. The duo uses pre-existing footages from various sources (from the Slaughterhouse to Pasolini) trying to unveil unusual connections between the fate of men and the fate of pigs, both sacrificed for a greater good.

Curation

  • Aerial Palettes is a project co-curated by Paul Ćinske & Camilla Lucii.

Paul Ćinske has been producing cultural events between Berlin & Melbourne for over a decade and currently holds curatorial positions at electronic music venues OHM and Tresor Berlin. Ćinske has developed his curatorial style with the mindset of collaborating with forward-thinking artists to re-contextualise the format of how concerts are presented.

Camilla Lucii’s curatorial research focuses on matter, symbols and religious icons; and how these “holy” relationships shifted into the man- machine correlation. With a degree in Cultural Heritages and Art History at Pisa University, Lucii expands upon her fascination with historical symbols and religious icons by studying their relationship with Man, fetishism and shamanism.

Concerts - Weekend One

  • Margaux Gazur draws inspiration from her surrounding environment and memories to create organic sonic experiences. She creates textures and patterns using a combination of instruments, utensils, ingredients, found objects and different material, while experimenting with movements and space. Her love for the organic pushes her to constantly engage her sonic surroundings and experiment with different recording techniques.

In this field-recordings workshop, Gazur teaches ways of capturing the acoustical traces of landscapes, people and objects to create organic soundscapes and music.

  • During her live performances, Lyn initiates her process by conducting research on the performance space, considering its unique characteristics and principles. Her improvised performances are never the same and are uniquely tailored to the space that surrounds her, often designed on the spot. This knowledge becomes her guiding compass as she embarks on a musical odyssey through the modular synthesizer.

Curation

  • Vaagner was founded in 2018 by Rohleder, born out of an urge to reconnect with tangible forms of music in the digital age.

Through a focus on community and cassette culture, It acts as a platform that lets me explore and express my intersecting interests in design, music and curation, while enabling me to connect and collaborate with other artists and individuals from around the globe.
