'The Anatomy of an Idea'
Wehrmuehle Museum
(2022)

A study in processing potential to the tangible.

How do we construct ideas? What occurs in the mind moments before an idea is formed? Do ideas grow, evolve, and transcend in a recurring pattern, or are there a multitude of pathways available? Ideas are at the core of human cognition. They are a major tool of expression, allowing us to decipher, organise, and explain emotions, behaviours, and actions. A powerful idea can inspire the mind, creating a need for exploration and analysis, in the hope that the final abstracted form will resonate with others. And through judgement, does the idea have enough substance and authenticity to influence and provoke something within the observer?

Through this framing, Aerial Palettes presented ‘The Anatomy of an Idea’, a multi-disciplinary showcase at Wehrmuehle Museum, Biesenthal.

VR EXPERIENCE
Sensus Communis present ‘Anti Atlantis’

If Atlantis tells the story of an ancient civilisation destroyed by nature, then Anti-Atlantis represents its opposite – a future landscape devastated by humanity’s culture of excess. Anti-Atlantis calls for a moment of awakening. Through a journey across time — between past and future — it draws attention to our present behaviour, its consequences, and the impulses that could inspire change. The work centres on a passage through a dystopian vision of the future — one that might still be avoided through collective effort to create the world we wish to awaken into.

The Sensus Communis team consists of Evelyn Bencicova, Enes Güc, Zeynep Schilling, Farahnaz Hatam & Colin Hacklander of LABOUR and Joris Demnard and Manuel Farre of Ikonospace.

WORKSHOP
A Beginners Guide to Field Recording, with Margaux Gazur

In the tranquil gardens of Wehrmuehle, Gazur guided guests through both the theory and practical application of field recording. Participants captured organic sound elements from nature, then experimented with synthesising and manipulating these recordings into sonic compositions. The workshop concluded with a live performance by Gazur using the captured material.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Evelyn Bencicova: ‘SimulacRaum’

SimulacRaum is an investigation of constructed spaces — Räume — that bear a resemblance or likeness (Latin: simulacrum) to a model, while standing in opposition to their origin. The series depicts the earth's surface divided into functional shapes and urban structures moulded into organic forms — each artificially created, yet connected with nature either through fragmentation or re-creation.

Oscar Rohleder  ‘Messe ICC’

Rohleder’s photography often explores and interrogates spaces that have shaped his identity. One of his studies centres on the Messe ICC building in Berlin, which — at 313 metres long, 89 metres wide, and 40 metres high — was a constant, looming backdrop during his daily commutes as a teenager. After years of fascination with its exterior, Oscar finally gained access to the Messe ICC in 2021.

SCULPTURE
Anna Zachariades ‘Soft Spot’

Zachariades’ sculptural series Soft Spot is an exploration of material properties and their limits. Challenging traditional understandings of these materials, the artist creates abstract zones of conflict that reflect the ever-shifting dynamics between humans, environments, and emotional states of being. The work interrogates vulnerability, and what change and adaptation look like as often anxiety-laden responses to external pressure.

Enes Güç 'The Sun, Rising and The Moon'

Through evocative yet oversaturated references to astrology, religion, mythology, pop culture, and technology, Güç adopts a humorous approach to expressing human suffering — with an awareness that this condition is deeply personal, yet universally and infinitely relatable. Laden with symbolism, The Sun, Rising and The Moon is an interactive sculptural triptych exploring the human condition as a complex system of external projections, internal personas, and exiled aspects of self.

A/V INSTALLATIONS
Enes Güç 'Thanks For Your Life, Little Lamb'

Little Lamb is an audio-visual installation centred around the reimagining of a slaughtered animal as a gesture of religious sacrifice. Güç abandons the biological body, replacing it with a resin carcass — transparent, reflective, brightly lit, and synthetic in nature. Accompanied by an audio recording of the artist's personal experience with animal sacrifice, the work emphasises the soul of the creature — an energetic life-force torn from one being and symbolically absorbed into the consciousness of another. The notion of sacrifice holds a strong personal resonance for the artist.

Sofia Ghezzo Leal ‘Plastic Bodies’

Leal is a silicone sculptor and artist whose practice involves casting directly from nude models to capture fleeting moments in time. Plastic Bodies emerges from her exploration of silicone across diverse human forms, pushing the material’s boundaries and reimagining it through the lens of conceptual expressionism. Complementing the sculptural work, Leal’s creative process was documented and distilled into a video piece by Giuliano Franco Ochipinti.

VIDEO
YKZHHQ ‘The Pigsty’

The Pigsty is an audio-visual project by YKZHHQ — a tale of pigs and men, tortured and slaughtered by obscure forces. The duo uses pre-existing footage from various sources (from the slaughterhouse to Pasolini) to unveil unexpected parallels between the fate of men and the fate of pigs, both sacrificed for a so-called greater good.

DRAWINGS
Raphaël Fienga ‘Soma’ (2019) & ‘Crtlxz’ (2020)

Fienga’s work is deeply inspired by their everyday physical environment — the structure of nature, urbanism, and the infinity of forms. Their practice is driven by a desire to dissolve one’s conditioning into another: a moment of flexibility, an invitation to relax through a visual and sensory experience. By observing the practice of freehand tracing, they create more memorable shapes and a sense of harmony within.
